EVENTS - TANZANIA 2007

Enduring ten immunizations, spending hours memorizing and quoting scriptures, creating crafts, songs and games…

Why would a team of 10 urban Americans travel 17 hours by air and 14 hours cross country by truck each way, to live in a remote village with no running water, and endure cold nights without heat or electricity? For the love of God and the desire to share this love with others!

Minister Mia K. Wright, well recognized in Houston for hosting Metamorphosis, the annual sold-out conference for women each March, lead a team of ten to a remote village of the Safwa Tribe in Mbeya, Tanzania, East Africa from April 23 – May 5, 2007.  Joining two American physicians living and working in Mbeya, the team conducted two 3-day seminars to teach and train women who were identified as potential leaders.  Utilizing translators, the messages of hope, help and love were shared. Women were taught leadership skills and encouraged to return to their villages and share the messages they’d learned.

Additionally, the team visited three local schools and taught games, songs, biblical stories and answered questions about life in America. The students listened intently and freely asked questions, showing a strong interest in learning At the end of these visits, the students assembled and sang songs to express their gratitude..

Additionally, members of the team visited individual homes where the gospel was presented. An outreach ministry to village children orphaned due to AIDS was also an essential part of our journey.

It is our goal that this work will continue to spread hope and faith in an environment that has been ravaged by the impact of AIDS because we know that God’s powerful message of love and healing brings about change in the lives of men, women and children.
